Presenting

Aura shares her enthusiasm for drawing, writing and reading in visual literacy presentations, storytime and illustration sessions at schools, festivals and libraries.

School Visits

EXAMPLE SESSION, K-2 (50 mins)

- Storytime.

- Introduction to the process of writing and coming up with ideas, showing rough sketches and storyboards to show the evolution of a project.

- A guided illustration session showing kids how to draw Heidi (the stick insect character from Twig), step by step. The kids do an illustration in pencil on their clipboards. We move on to a more expressive Heidi, and the children draw another picture with added emotion of their choice, encouraged to make their own individual character.

- Questions.

- Show and tell with real stick insects.


OUTCOMES:

Sharing enthusiasm for reading, writing and drawing.

Knowledge of character design, gesture, pose, body language and how this contributes to the story.

The publication process (depending on the age of the students).


EQUIPMENT:

Screen/ Smartboard, to display Powerpoint presentation.

Microphone.

Clipboards and lead pencils for the students.

Helper to hold a stick insect, showing it around.

Easel (Aura brings her drawing materials and large sheets of paper).
